Protect Your Car From Thieves

AAA wants to keep your car safe from thieves.

The Auto Club along with the CHP, Santa Barbara Police, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau are hosting a vehicle identification number awareness event today.

The groups are offering to etch your VIN number into your windshield.

This process makes cars easier to trace if they are stolen.

The event starts at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 3:00 p.m. at La Cumbre Plaza in the Macy's lower parking lot.

Authorities say more than 1700 cars were stolen in Santa Barbara.from 1998 to 2008.
