Proposal to Expand Oil Drilling

Written by KEYT Producer

An oil company drilling in the Santa Barbara Channel wants to expand its operations. The Bureau of Ocean Management says Pacific Operators Offshore LLC wants to drill further east onto state property off the coast of Carpinteria. Federal officials say the company could drill as many as 25 underwater wells from Platform Hogan.

Federal officials are evaluating the potential environmental impacts of the project. A meeting on the proposal is scheduled for January 19th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carpinteria City Council Chambers.

Comments may be submitted by mail to Carpinteria EIS Coordinator, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Pacific OCS Region, 770 Paseo Camarillo, Camarillo, CA 93010-6064. They can also be sent by email to carpinteriaredevelopment@mrsenv.com.
