Proof Of Car Insurance Smartphone App

Sacramento - State lawmakers are considering creating a law that would allow you to show proof of car insurance on your Smartphone with the help of an app.

Many insurance providers already have apps that show your insurance card.

Insurance agents KEY News spoke with say the convenience of an app is already making them popular among many drivers.

"Anyone who owns a smart phone should download and have this app because my understanding is local officers are accepting this as proof of insurance," said Paul Cashman, State Farm Insurance. "So it is just another thing you don't have to carry around along with registration."

Keep in mind the proof of insurance law on the books now does not specifically include apps, so there is no guarantee law enforcement won't insist on your actual insurance card yet.

No word on when the bill will be up for a vote.
