Power Plant Moving In

Oxnard- By this time next summer Southern California Edison plans to have a "peaker plant" up and running at Mandalay State Beach.

The area by Oxnard Shores is already home to a Reliant power plant.

For years Oxnard City Officials and environmentalists have fought the plan saying Oxnard already has two power plants on the beach and a superfund cleanup site.

But a judge upheld the approval of the coastal commission this month.

Edison officials say the peaker plant will prevent blackouts during disasters.
