New Pot Shop Ordinance Goes into Effect in Santa Barbara

KEYT Assignment Desk

The city of Santa Barbara began enforcing a new ordinance on Thursday that caps the number of marijuana dispensaries in town.

There are six areas where 3-marijuana dispensaries can now be located, legally, in the city: outer State Street... upper De La Vina.. West Pueblo Medical Center.. and along Mission and Milpas Streets.

As of now, the only shop that meets all legal requirements is Pacific Coast Caregivers on the 300-block of North Milpas.

Owners will be chosen, based on the order in which their applications were received.

In the meantime, the dispensaries have a 6-month "grace period" of sorts, until January 29th of 20-11.

After that, city officials say.. enforcement begins.
