Written by KEY News Staff

Carpinteria - A new state of the art commercial kitchen just opened at Carpinteria High School.

The $1.6 million project was paid for with a $435,000 grant, matching district funds and donations.

The facility has a walk in freezer, walk in refrigerator, ovens, stoves and a commercial dishwasher. All the equipment is stainless steel.

Some of the classes being taught in the new kitchen are college level and students are able to get college credit.

School district officials plan on offering cooking classes to the community this spring.
