Moritorium Affects New Drilling Offshore

KEYT Reporter

A new Obama Administration moratorium on deep sea drilling affects more than the gulf coast.

It affect platforms in deep water off the Central Coast.

The moratorium is intended to address safety concerns about underwater blowout preventers.

A spokeswoman for Veneco says the platforms are still drilling but there is no new drilling going on.

Lisa Rivas says that means some of the deep sea work is headed to other countries.

For local contractors that means jobs are lost or leaving.

The new moratorium is expected to be lifted in December.
