Montecito Motors Shuts Down, Police Investigating

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Santa Barbara Police are investigating whether the owners of Montecito Motors will face criminal charges, after the business shut down last week.

A lone employee at Montecito Motors spent Wednesday calling customers to have them collect their cars because the dealership is now closed.

Very few cars are still in the lot of the dealership on the 500 block of Chapala Street. The showroom is empty, as more and more customers pick up their cars.

Santa Barbara Police say the father and son business owners are under investigation after nearly a dozen complaints were filed with police.

Victims say the dealership sold their cars, but when it came time to pay them their cut, the business owners didn't hand over the money.

Authorities say tens of thousands of dollars are owed to the victims who trusted Montecito Motors to sale their vehicles on consignment.

Police are now talking with victims and reviewing all of the reports. Once finished, they will present the information to the District Attorney's office, which will decide whether to file criminal charges been a criminal act or not.

The owners of the business did not return my call for a comment.
