Mattei's Tavern Granted Landmark Status

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos is a decades-old fixture in the local community.

It was built in 18-86, however, until Monday it wasn't a designated historical landmark..

In January the Santa Ynez Valley Alliance formally nominated Mattei's Tavern for designation as a historical landmark, hoping to slow down or possibly derail a proposed development on the property.

There is currently a proposed resort on the property which include a 65 room hotel, a conference room plus a pool and a spa.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors hasn't yet ratified the landmark designation.

And, the Planning Commission hasn't approved the plans for the development.

The proposed project goes before the Planning Commission on October 20th.
