Locals Working to Solve Homeless Problem

Written by KEYT Producer

A fundraising effort is underway to open more warming centers for Santa Barbara County's homeless.

A forum held Thursday night called "Beyond Socks and Blankets" focused on creative ways to help the homeless.

Organizers say eight homeless people have died on Santa Barbara streets already this year.

A total of 31 died throughout the entire county all of last year.

They believe more warming centers, open for longer hours will save lives.

Volunteers are hoping to raise at least $25,000 for the centers.
