Local Schools Banking On Bond Measures This Election

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

In Santa Barbara residents are helping out with a local parcel tax specifically for campus improvements. However, those bonds are running out and another decision by voters has to be made.

Leaking roofs, broken window frames, and outdated classrooms, can be found on many Santa Barbara area campuses.

Now, taxpayers are, again, being asked to help fix the problems.

The cafeteria kitchen at Santa Barbara High School is one section of the school that is in dire need of repairs.

It's closed until a $3 million repair job is funded. In the meantime, food is trucked in daily for the students.

A current parcel tax, specifically for school construction and repair projects expires soon and two new bond measures on the November ballot will allow the funding source to continue without raising taxes.

To pass Measures Q and R, and continue funding school repair projects, it will take more than 55-percent of the voters to support the measures in the upcoming election.
