Liquor Licenses In Santa Barbara High Compared To Other Cities

If you walk down State Street its not hard to find a place to grab a drink, but you might be surprised to know, there are currently 478 active retail liquor licenses in the City of Santa Barbara.

When comparing Santa Barbara's liquor licenses to nearby cities, Santa Barbara blows away the competition. Also included in these numbers are restaurants, bars, grocery stores and gas stations.

According to the Alcoholic Beverage Control, there is a cap on how many liquor licenses are divided out in one city.

Santa Barbara Police say, despite the high number of establishments selling liquor things have gone pretty smoothly over the years.

The ABC does rely on the police along with census numbers to control the amount of liquor licenses that are issued, but still some feel there are too many places you can go to garb a drink.
