Los Angeles - A special award was given to a Santa Barbara native at the American Music Awards Sunday.

Katy Perry was honored with a special achievement award for being the first female pop artist with five number one hit singles from her album "Teenage Dream." Perry is also tied with Michael Jackson, who has five number one singles from his album "Thriller."

Decked out in pink, Perry said, "I'm very, very very pleased and I want to give thanks to my amazing record label. I love you so much and I also love my fans!"

Perry also performed her smash hit "The One That Got Away."
