Jewelry Store Robbery Suspect Arrested

Santa Barbara - Police have arrested a man they say robbed a local jewelry store in April 2010.

After a thorough investigation, Jose Antonio Aviles, 32, of Los Angeles, was arrested in San Diego Tuesday for robbery and kidnapping. Investigators say Aviles was currently in custody with the California Department of Corrections for a separate robbery he committed in California.

The Joyeria Latina Americana jewelry store on N. Milpas St. was robbed on April 7, 2010. Four men stole $750,000 in jewelry and $13,000 in cash. The robbers also threatened and tied up the owner, the owner's wife and an employee in the back room .

The investigation is still ongoing.
