Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Santa Barbara - An inmate at the Santa Barbara County Main jail died while behind bars Saturday afternoon.

Deputies say at 3:35pm they found 29-year-old Juan Rodriguez-Zepeda unconscious in his cell. Deputies performed CPR to no avail and Rodriguez-Zepeda was pronounced dead at the scene.

According sheriff's officials, Rodriguez-Zepeda was alone in a single-person cell when he was found. Deputies do not believe he is the victim of foul play.

Sheriff's detectives say the coroner’s final report will not be complete pending toxicology tests, which could take 3 to 4 weeks. At this point in the investigation, it appears Rodriguez-Zepeda died as a result of suicide.

Rodriguez-Zepeda was a Lompoc resident and had been in jail since March 21 for DUI and vehicular homicide.
