Helicopter Program Review On Board Of Supervisors Agenda For Tuesday

Santa Barbara County - Santa Barbara County is hoping to spin more efficiency out of its sheriff's and fire helicopter program.

The aviation units are separate but a lengthy review has just been completed and next Tuesday county leaders will look at a more unified command.

Both departments have said at times their assignments are completely different but have also agreed on some cross training to be more efficient.

Currently the county has four sheriff's helicopters and two fire helicopters. The combined plan being presented to county leaders about save about $270,000 a year.
