Dreams Come True at UCSB

Written by KEYT Anchor

UCSB - It's not your typical dream, most kids would choose visiting amusement parks or meeting professional athletes, but for 17 year old Caroline Roy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, her wish is to become a Marine Biologist. On Tuesday, that wish came true.

Caroline was diagnosed with cancer of the salivary gland when she was 11 and despite treatments it has come back three times, but it has not stopped her from going after her goal of a college education and becoming a scientist.

Thanks to the non-profit, "Dreams Come True of Louisiana" and UCSB's Marine Science Institute, Caroline and her family are spending a few days in California.

On Tuesday, the entire family toured a number of labs and were even able to meet some local researchers and get a feel for their work.

On Wednesday, the family is planning to go on a whale watching expedition and if all goes well Caroline hopes to return to Santa Barbara in few years as an actual UCSB student.
