"Dirty Energy" on the Big Screen at the SBIFF

Written by KEY News Staff

Santa Barbara - The impacts of the British Petroleum Oil Spill in April 2010 are on the big screen during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Those who made the movie and some of the residents in the film are taking part in a public reception this evening.

Director Bryan Hopkins spoke to us on the red carpet at one of the premier showings of the movie "Dirty Energy" this week. He said he wanted to show the impacts of the BP Deep Water Horizon Spill from the perspective of the residents and business owners impacted along the Gulf Coast.

"It was huge and actually still is huge. That's the thrust the film is at," Hopkins said. "There's a lot of stuff going on there and maybe it isn't getting into the public's eye. It deserves attention, [attention] spans in America are relatively short."

The public reception with the filmmaker and cast will be at Antioch University at the corner of Cota and Anacapa Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Local environmental leaders from groups such as the Environmental Defense Center and Community Environmental Council will be on hand as well.
