Written by KEYT Reporter

The California Highway Patrol made an arrest in a hit and run accident that left a Santa Barbara mountain biker dead.

Officer Steve Reid says the accident happened around 7:30 on the Coast Highway just South of Faria Beach.

They arrested 43 year old Shannon Richard on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Reid says Richard was driving a red 2008 Mitsubishi with her two year old in the car when she hit Jose Luis Carmona as he walked beside his bike.

Officers say they found Richard parked at her nearby home and that she thought she had hit an animal.

The medical examiner says the 40 year old Santa Barbara cyclist died from blunt force injuries.

Richard, a former Ventura children's store owner is out on bail and scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
