Crime Alert Issued After Burglaries Skyrocket

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Local police have a warning out for residents in the Tri-Counties. A crime alert has been issued to those living in the City of Ventura after a rash of home break-ins.

Ventura Police issued a Community Crime Alert earlier this week following a 47-percent increase in burglaries during the first three months of 2011.

Officials say more than 70-percent of the incidents happened during daytime hours. They also say more than 61-percent of the cases were the result of doors, windows, or garage doors being left open or unlocked.

Police have posted signs in several areas around town telling residents to report any suspicious activity to keep their doors and windows shut and locked while away from home.
