Credit Card Skimming

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Not only are gas prices soaring, but a trip to the gas station may be having another impact on your bank account.

Some Santa Barbara residents say they have had credit and debit card information stolen from them in recent days.

They link the theft back to purchases at gas station in-pump devices where they have inserted their credit cards and added other information such as a PIN number.

Owners of stations in Santa Barbara we spoke to say they check their machines often and have not seen any tampering.

They suspect it's a sophisticated electronic theft that cannot be easily detected by the station owner or the customers.

One customer said the best protection for him, was to pay with cash.
