CA State Supreme Court Approves District Lines

Written by KEY News Staff

Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties - Unless there's a change by voters, the lines are set for the 19th Senate District in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

The district boundaries were upheld by the California State Supreme Court after a challenge.

The district will include all of Santa Barbara County and most of Ventura County north of the Conejo Grade.

Democrats Hannah-Beth Jackson and Jason Hodge have already said they are running and Republican Mike Stoker is announcing his candidacy soon.

"I made it very clear to people if the new district would involve Santa Barbara County and portions of Ventura County that I was 99 percent certain I probably was going to run," Stoker said.

Jackson is supportive of the new district lines.

"It makes sense in terms of the communities who are involved geographically," Jackson said. "I'm looking forward to the race and I'm glad this has been resolved."

Hodge believes the new district lines are similar in many ways.

"You have an area that is very working class, very coastal and very agrarian, so the similarities between the communities is there," Hodge said. "We were always excited about that opportunity."

The open primary election takes place in June.
