Box Office Plaza Proposed

A new box office may be just the ticket for the Santa Barbara Bowl.

The bowl has spent 30 million dollars on improvements in recent years.

Executive Director Rick Boller says a box office plaza is the last major construction project that's part of the Santa Barbara Bowl's master plan.

Tuesday the Bowl gave a presentation to the Santa Barbara City Council.

The feedback will be considered before a final application is submitted.

The plan does not call for tearing down the old building but building a new one on the other side of the driveway.

It would include an administration building, ticket windows, bathrooms, a pedestrian entrance and an outdoor lobby.

But the bowl also wants the city to vacate the Southern portion of Lowena Drive that loops around the site.

That would make the bowl responsible for that portion of the roadway leading up to the entrance gate.
