Bones Brigade

Written by Scott Hurst

Santa Barbara - Santa Barbara will soon become the center of the California skateboarding scene... at least for one night.

"Bones Brigade: An Autobiography" will be played at the Arlington Theatre on Thursday night. It chronicles the rise of one of the most skateboarding teams in the history of the sport, known as the Bones Brigade. Put together by legendary skateboarder-turned-filmmaker Stacy Peralta, the Bones Brigade is a well known group of guys that revitalized the sport.

Some of the riders include Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Tommy Guerrero, Mike McGill.

However, Peralta says it is not just a skate film. It's a documentary about an important aspect of local culture. "Skateboarding is an American phenomenon. It's an American subculture, it was created in American, specifically California. We've got to celebrate these things that are indigenous to us and this film is a celebration of something that is indigenous to the California lifestyle and the California dream," says Peralta.

"Bones Brigade: An Autobiography" premiered at the Sun Dance Film Festival.
