Local Couple Faces Charges for Animal Abuse

Written by Kyra Jenkins

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Solvang man accused of abusing a two and a half old puppy.
Francisco Gutierrez and Roselene Monroy both face charges of failing to provide adequate care for an animal.
Monroy appeared in court today to enter a plea of not guilty.
Gutierrez did not show up, prompting the judge to issue a warrant for his arrest. The pit bull named Rocky was taken by Santa Barbara Animal Control from the couple's backyard after a neighbor reported the dog was being badly treated.
Rocky's ears have been cut off in what appears to be an act of preparing a pit bull for fighting but Gutirrez and Monroy say he was like that when a stranger at a shopping mall gave Rocky to them.

Rocky was taken away from the couple after allegedly being left in the yard for several days without food or water. Animal Rescue Team, Inc is hosting a fundraiser Sunday, September 23rd from 3-7pm at the Maverick Saloon in Santa Ynez to help abused animals like Rocky.
