Neighborhood Health Clinics Facing Cutbacks

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

The Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics are used to helping those in need of medical and dental care, but with the start of the state's fiscal year just days away,L budget cutbacks could soon have these clinics asking for help.

Just last year these clinics treated 16,000 patients and as those numbers continue to rise.

The four neighborhood clinics are devoted to helping the uninsured, but as the state looks for ways to fix our spiraling budget problems these clinics are likely be directly impacted.

The clinics could be forced implement layoffs, reduce hours and even shut their doors for good.

Donors have been the main driving force for these clinics in past years raising $2 million per year to keep the clinics running.

However, this year donations are down due in part to the broken economy.
