Shark Pup Washes Ashore At Rincon

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Days after the mangled corpse of sea lion that was attacked by a great white shark off the Santa Barbara coast was found, the body of a young shark washed ashore near Rincon Point in Ventura County.

It's unclear whether the shark found on the beach at Rincon, is the one responsible for Saturday's attack. And local experts say the shark could be a salmon shark or a great white.

Back in Santa Barbara, directors of the city's Junior Lifeguard program are not taking any chances. Water based activities for over 300 participants have been suspended for Monday and Tuesday because of the attack's proximity to shore.

Harbor Patrol Officials say they are conducting routine coastline checks, but feel beachgoers have nothing to worry about. Area surfers also told KEY News that shark sighting a quite common this time of year.
