Supervisor Brooks Firestone Will Not Seek Reelection

Breaking News: Longtime politician to leave board after 2008 election

Brooks Firestone today announced that he will not seek re-election to a second term of office on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors in 2008.
Firestone is currently the Chair of the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors.

"After deep consultation with my wife and family, I've decided not to seek re-election," Firestone said. "I'm 71, I've been through eight major campaigns, two terms in the California State Assembly and after completing my current term on the Board of Supervisors, I want to spend more time with my family."
The County's Third District covers the Santa Ynez Valley region, Solvang and Lompoc and Vandenberg Air Force Base to Goleta and Isla Vista.
Firestone was elected to the County Board of Supervisors in November 2004.
He was sworn into office in January 2005. His term expires at the end of 2008.

Firestone, a life-long Republican, served in the California State Assembly from 1994 to 1998.
He represented the 35th Assembly District.

Firestone and his wife, Kate, first moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1972 and shortly thereafter founded the Firestone Vineyards winery, a business they recently sold.

Firestone is widely credited with helping to establish the Santa Barbara County wine industry which has gained worldwide acclaim for it's quality wines.
