Animal Torture Suspect Awaits Sentencing

Written by Kyra Jenkins

A teenager accused of torturing a tortoise owned by an autistic Ventura child returned to court today to make his plea.
Tony Mosqueda kept his head down while he waited for a hearing in his felony animal cruelty case. He plead no contest to charges of animal cruelty.
The 18-year-old's attorney wants to avoid a trial but the mother of the six-year-old who cared for the tortoise named Bob thinks the suspect deserves jail time.
Dorothy Sullivan also thinks someone linked to the case poisoned her family's dog over the weekend. Mosqueda has no prior record.
If he receives the maximum sentence in October, he could face up to 3 years in prison.
Bob is still recovering from the assault which almost removed his shell and injured his legs and arms with stab wounds.
