Rallying To Save Our Whales

KEYT Producer

Demonstrators in Santa Barbara and other coastal cities in California today called for an end to the killing of whales around the world.

This renewed call to save the whales comes as the International Whaling Commission is about to set new quotas on the taking of whales. The waters off Santa Barbara have been called a superhighway for these magnificent creatures.

Whale watching is a local business in Santa Barbara because 27 different kinds of whales have been seen here. But around the world last year nearly 2,000 whales have been killed by fishing industries in Japan, Norway, Iceland, and Russia.
