Officials Fight Zaca Fire from Ventura County

Kyra Jenkins

Firefighters are fighting fire with fire near the hottest spot now burning on the border of the Santa Barbara Ventura County line.

Ventura Fire Officials conducting back burns say they're about a 45 minute drive north of Ojai and the flames you see are from back fire and the goal is to keep the flames from crossing highway 33.

Aircrafts known as S2's and Seat Planes are flying in from Santa Maria to make retardant drops. Firefighters say planes support the fire fight but crews on ground put it out.

The fire is likely to become the largest wildfire in California this Century but the great fire of 1889 that spread from San Diego to Orange County is burned into the record books, making Zaca Fire the second largest. As of Tuesday morning, the fire has burned 220, 863 acres and is 77% contained.

The fire is still burning 9 miles north of Montecito in the Diablo Canyon area. It's also burning nearly 15 miles west of Ojai near highway 33.
Evacuation warnings remain in effect for residents living along Paradise Road and those east of Camino Cielo area from Gibraltor Road to Santa Barbara County line.
