Three Men Accused Of Stealing Indian Artifacts

Written by KEYT Assignment Desk

Camarillo, CA-- Three men were arrested on suspicion of stealing artifacts from a Native American burial site. The suspects were found by law enforcement at a site in the Santa Monica Mountains in Ventura County.

22-year-old Noah Erickson, 37-year-old John Watson and 40-year-old
Frederick Villela were arrested on March 1st and later released.

Authorities say the men were located after receiving a report of people with flashlights near a known Native American site.

Deputies say the three men were in possession of artifacts from the site. A search of the suspect's home also turned up more artifacts that had been illegally taken.

Cpt. Ross Bonfiglio with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department says it's illegal to remove items from a Native American historic site, and a felony if it is a burial site.
