Fess Parker: Memorial Service Announced

Santa Barbara - KEY News has learned that a memorial service for Fess Parker will be held Friday, March 26th at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort on Cabrillo Boulevard. It will begin at 2 p.m.

The local developer and former Hollywood actor died earlier this week. He was 85. In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to make donations to Direct Relief International.

Parker was an American film and television actor best known for his 1950s portrayals of Davy Crockett for Walt Disney and of Daniel Boone in the late 1960s. He was well-known locally for being a resort owner and winemaker. The Fess Parker DoubleTree Inn by the waterfront was famous for it' many events and festivities.

Fess Parker began his show-business career in 1951, and will always be known for his roles as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone. Parker made guest appearances on many television programs; and composed and sang music.

Locally, he also owned the Fess Parker Winery in Los Olivos. It has produced several different types of award-winning wines. In addition to wine, Parker was known for selling coon skin caps and bottle toppers at his winery (inspired by his Crockett and Boone characters).

Parker married Marcella Belle Rinehart on January 18, 1960. They have two children: Fess Elisha III and Ashley Allen Rinehart.
