KEYT Assignment Desk

The U.S. Embassy was prompted to issue warnings to Americans planning to travel to Mexico, after a bloody weekend left three Americans dead.

15 people were killed in a shootout early Sunday morning in the beach resort town of Acapulco. In a separate shooting on Sunday, three people with ties to the American consulate were killed near the Mexican Texas boarder.

Nearly 50 people were killed this past weekend in drug and gang related violence.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City is advising Americans to avoid travel to certain parts of Northern Mexico.
