Boy Saves Family From Apartment Fire

The Oxnard Fire Department praises a seven year old boy after he discovers smoke filling the family's apartment. Today some of the 23 people who were displaced are returning home. As KEY news reporter Ben Howell reports, many are grateful to the little boy.

Friends of the family say George a seven year old boy who lived at the apartment complex saved his family after exploring what he called the smell of something funny. Turns out..that funny smell was just the start of a raging fire.

The Oxnard Fire Department responded to a call around 11:45 Saturday morning and as they arrived on scene this two story apartment complex in the 1300 block of Azalea Street was engulfed in flames.

Minutes before the fire destroyed the apartment a seven year old boy, who neighbors refereed to as "George" was able to alert his family and get everybody out of the house. The immediate family declined comment but KEY news was able to speak with one relative who says George is use to looking out for others.
