What's Right: Students Plan Spring Break Around Volunteering

Written by KEYT Producer

Hundreds of Westmont students will be "paying it forward" during their spring break. About 340 Westmont students will spend March 15-19 volunteering for various service projects in Mississippi, Alabama, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Ensenada, Mexico.

The projects range from building homes and expanding a day care center in Ensenada, Mexico to painting and cleaning up churches, working with an after school program, distributing food, working with the homeless and working with HIV/AIDS patients in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

In Santa Barbara, more than 60 students will spend their week volunteering with A Rocha, a Christian environmental initiative. Last year, the group painted fences, helped with laundry and installed a playground at the Village Apartments on Santa Barbara's west side.

These projects are student-initiated and led. Students are also required to raise money for each trip.
