Jogger Escapes Kidnapping Attempt

KEYT Anchor

Oxnard, CA-- A 26-year-old woman was jogging near Cesar Chavez Drive and Juanita Avenue, when a man came from behind and grabbed her.

It happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday night.

The woman told police, the suspect grabbed her in a "bear hug." That's when she began to struggle with the suspect and screamed for help.

The attacker eventually released the woman and walked away.

Oxnard Police believe the woman's attacker may be associated with a newer, white Chevy Impala. The victim told police she thought the vehicle had been following her.

The suspect is described as a heavy set, Hispanic male in his 20's.

Residents are being reminded to be alert and aware, walk or jog on the side of the street facing traffic and stay in well lit areas. It's also important that they let someone know where they're going and when they'll be back and to never go out alone at night.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Oxnard Police Department at 805-385-7796.
