Four Local Schools Could Learn Their Fate Today

KEYT Producer

The State Board of Education is expected to release its final list of endangered schools today.

Four local schools are on a list of 188 public schools that must adopt major reforms or possibly shut their doors for good. The list includes Cesar Chavez Elementary in Santa Barbara, and Adam Elementary, Alvin Elementary, and Calvin Elementary.

The California Department of Education says the schools are "persistently low-achieving."

Some schools could end up replacing their principal, closing down and sending their students to other schools or closing, and reopening as a charter school.

The Santa Maria-Bonita School District Superintendent wants to reassure parents that students are getting the education they need.
