Two Quakes Rattle Isla Vista

The U.S.G.S. is confirming today that two small earthquakes rattled the Isla Vista area Wednesday night.

The first struck around 7:30 p.m. and measured 2.5 on the Richter scale, and was centered 7 miles west of the college community.

The second quake hit around 9:30 p.m. and registered as 2.9. The epicenter was 6 miles west of Isla Vista, and 15 miles west of downtown Santa Barbara.

No damage or injuries were reported following the temblors.

On Tuesday, a 3.0 quake struck about 10 minutes after noon in near the San Nicholas Island. That quake was centered 53 miles off the coast, south of Oxnard.
