Safety Measures Considered for Reducing Fatalities on Bridge

Written by Kyra Jenkins

Forty people have committed suicide from the cold spring bridge along highway 154 since 1960.
It's one of the deadliest spots in five counties but new safety measures are on the drawing board. A joint committee heard public input and discussed the different options from building a fence to putting up more call boxes so those in distress can reach out.
Also considered was replacing the current "No Loitering" signs with signs letting people know they can call for help.
One suicide prevention group says they favor building a six foot steel barrier over putting up more signs.
The project is expected to be completed by 2010.
