Elderly Man Arrested After Kidnapping Attempt

Grover Beach, CA-- An 82-year-old Arroyo Grande man was arrested Tuesday night, after police say he kidnapped a 6-month-old child from a Von's grocery store parking lot.

It all happened around 9:30 p.m., when the Grover Beach Police Department were notified by the mother of the child, that Peter Hewitt took her baby.

Hewitt reportedly took the child and then fled to the garage of a home in Arroyo Grande. The child's mother followed him with the help of a good Samaritan, and was able to tell police where Hewitt was.

When officers arrived at the home, they entered the garage and found Hewitt locked in a car with the baby.

After a brief struggle, police were able to free the baby and take Hewitt into custody.

Hewitt was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of kidnapping, child endangerment and resisting arrest.

The baby was returned, unharmed to it's mother.
