Porsche Slams Into MTD Bus, Driver Pulled From Wreckage

Christina Heller

Goleta, CA-- The driver of a red Porsche had quite a scare Thursday morning, when his car slammed head-on into an MTD Bus on Highway 217, near UCSB.

The accident happened just before 10 a.m. on northbound Highway 217, at Sandspit Road.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found the driver of the Porsche trapped in his vehicle. Crews had to use the jaws of life to rescue the young man from the wreckage. Once free from his vehicle, the victim was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Only six people were on board the MTD Bus when the accident happened. No one on board was injured.

According to officials on scene, the red Porsche hydroplaned on the rain slick roads, causing the driver to lose control.
Bus passenger Nick Carver said, "I first thought he was u-turning. Then all of a sudden, I can tell he was probably hydroplaning. He spun right into us like a football. He "collashed" right into us, and the bus drug him right into the northbound lane."

Carver jumped out of the bus and said he found the driver, "covered in blood, I couldn't see his face. I just grabbed my gloves wiped him off asked how he was doing. He was completely pinned."

Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Mike Riach said, "It was a really a miracle. He had none of his limbs inpinged. We were able to extricate him by cutting out the door and then put him in full c- spine precautions." Riach said medical care was expedited en route to the hospital, but other than lacerations there were no obvious injuries.

Senior Reporter John Palminteri was on the scene and has our report.
