25th Annual SBIFF Opens With Homegrown Film

Santa Barbara, CA-- The 25th Annual Santa Barbara Film Festival will get underway Thursday night, with the red carpet, world premiere of "Flying Lessons."

This year's festival boosts 30 Academy Award nominees and variety of domestic and foreign films.

Tonight's opening film "Flying Lessons," was shot on location in the Santa Ynez Valley. "Lessons," which is directed by Derek Magyar and stars Maggie Grace of "Lost," focuses on the crossroads a 25-year-old woman comes to when she returns home, to a town she always wanted to forget.

Thursday's red carpet premiere, will feature stars a number of Hollywood celebrities, including Iron Chef Cat Cora.

Red Carpet arrivals are scheduled to begin around 7 p.m., and "Flying Lessons" will screen at 8 p.m., at the Arlington Theater in downtown Santa Barbara.

On Friday, Academy Award nominee for Best Actress, Sandra Bullock will be honored with the SBIFF's American Riviera Award Presented By Chopin.
