Nine Car Pile-Up Sends Five To The Hospital

Gaviota, CA-- An accident involving nine cars Friday morning near the Gaviota Tunnel on Highway 101, sent five people to the hospital.

The injured all suffered moderate injuries when a chain reaction accident happened just after 7 a.m.

Four other victims were treated on scene for minor injuries by members of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The accident temporarily shut down the southbound number one lane of Highway 101 at a time when many were driving to work.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
