Measure A May Stall Due To Recession

Mike Waller

Measure A, the half-cent transportation tax, was approved last year. It was intended to generate millions of dollars for local transportation projects.

It's highest priority is the Highway 101 Milpas to Hot Springs project, which will widen the highway from Montecito to Carpinteria. However, Wednesday morning the "Measure A Citizens Oversight Committee," which monitors how the money is spent, worries that work may ultimately be delayed by the recession.

As of right now though, the only slow down locals seem to notice is due to construction itself. "Yea, it's kind of messed up." says Santa Barbara resident Ray Ortega. "It takes a long time to get to work and to the house. It's an inconvenience."

KEY News Reporter Joe Gehl reports now, on what the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, or SBCAG, is doing about the problems.
