Voters Reject Higher Sales Tax And Elect New City Councilman

Christina Heller

Ventura, CA-- Voters said 'no' to every ballot measure in Fillmore, Oxnard and Ventura. But they said 'yes' to a new city council member.

Former Ventura Police Chief Mike Tracy celebrated his first election victory at 71 Palm. Tracy knows the city will be on a tight budget because voters rejected a half-cent sales tax measure Tuesday night.

Voters re-elected Neal Andrews, Brian Brennan and Jim Monahan who won a record ninth term.

Mary Haffner, John Walker and Velma Lomax won re-election on the Ventura Unified School Board.

Voters in Ventura also rejected a Measure C, that would have limited big-box retail stores within city limits.
