Supervisors Could Ban Alcohol On Isla Vista Beaches

Isla Vista, CA-- One of UCSB's wildest traditions may have a different look next year. That's if Santa Barbara County Supervisors pass an ordinance to ban alcohol on Isla Vista beaches.

On Tuesday the board unanimously approved the first reading of the ordinance. It came after an estimated 12-thousand people attended this year's Floatopia. Floatopia, an annual party involving sun, fun, and in many cases overindulgence.

While many students are opposed to the ban, the board and law enforcement believe it will make the event safer.

A second reading of the ordinance is expected to take place next month.
