Several Classes In Santa Barbara County, Closed Due To Swine Flu
Santa Barbara, CA-- Three Santa Barbara County Special Ed classes are closed due concerns over the swine flu.
Wendy Shelton, director of communications for Santa Barbara County Office of Education says, the cancellation of classes were set in place because of the medical fragility of the students. She also said the decision to close the classes, is in line with County Health Department protocol. Health officials recommend sending the students and instructors home, if two or more students or staff members exhibit signs of the H1N1 virus. Two of the classes affected are at Goleta's Dos Pueblos High School. The third class, is a special day class for handicapped students at Benjamin Foxen School in Sisquoc. Schools officials want parents to know, these closures do not mean the school is experiencing an outbreak. The closures are a precautionary measure to keep the medically fragile students, who are not sick, healthy. The cancelled classes are set to resume instruction on Wednesday of next week. |
