Shooting in Fillmore

An unknown suspect shot at a home in the 700 block of Akers Street in Fillmore early Sunday. The bullet passed through a bedroom window, a set of blinds and a mattress before it hit a 20-year-old woman in the back, police said.

The woman was burned slightly by the hot bullet, but she was not hospitalized.

Police believe the crime is gang-related, said Sgt. Dave Wareham of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

No known gang members live in the house that was targeted, Wareham said.

"They went after the wrong house," he said.

An investigation is on-going and witnesses who have not spoken with police are encouraged to call the Fillmore Police Station at 805-524-2233.
