Residents Warned Of Thief Impersonating Water Dept. Employee

Ventura, CA-- Police are telling residents not to let anyone you don't know into their home. This after a man claiming to work with a utility company, tried to rob a 70-year-old woman Friday morning.

According to the victim, the man claimed to work for the water department and he needed to check her home's water pressure. The suspect walked inside the the woman's home to check the pipes inside the home while she waited in the garage.

When the victim came inside, she found the suspect her bedroom, going through her belongings.

The suspect ran out of the house immediately, jumped in a car parked on the street and drove away.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male 30 to 35-years-old, between 5'7'' and 5'10" tall. He is said to be wearing a white hat, white collared shirt and white pants. And last seen driving a small, white pick-up truck with utility boxes in the back.

Ventura Police say if your not sure a person works for a utility company, you should always call the company before allowing them in your home.
